Dispersion by DarkSideOfTheSun Dispersion by DarkSideOfTheSun
The open road is like an enormous filter.
Trivialities wash away, revealing the things that matter.

Utterly sublime.

The most beautiful thing I've seen was in eastern Montana. This shot reminds me of that view, of that feeling, of that moment in life set aside like frames on the floor of some cosmic editing room. Superb. Utterly fantastic.

Thanks Wintermute.
I know what you mean, that Holodeck kind of feeling - like it's too real to be real so it just becomes surreal. I sometimes get the feeling that I'm in some grand studio when confronted by a vast landscape - especially if it's really still and quiet.
I'd love to se Montana. I'm planning to do a road trip across the states in a year or two - the mid-west looks like an ancient and humbling place, which is why I love the outback too.
Cheers.

Total, simple, symmetry. Letting it fade out along the edges gives a fantastic focus to the center/horizon, plus that lovely deep blue on top. Very pretty =).

Yeah I think their technical name is "cumulus pyramidus" (not to be confused with cirrus rhombus!)

I love the textures and the contrasting colors in this! The road and the ground seem coarse, and just very representative of 'Earth'. In contrast, the sky is soft and vibrant. A detail that I really like are the two hills in the distance. One looks like the earth while the other has tones reflecting the sky. Great work! :D

Its gritty, its dirty, it looks and conveys a feeling of monotinous journey, yet its so beautiful, especially in conjunction with that endless pitch blue sky. Very good.

very nice capture but i'd have placed the horizon a bit deeper to get more sky and less road...

Hi fx!
Thanks - yes it was a tough decision - more sky would have given a nice balance but the road was what seemed to make for the most dramatic perspective. In the end I just broke the cardinal rule and went half and half!
Many thanks for your perspective on it!

Yeah sunset would have been great. Sometimes landscapes can look a bit dull during the day, but the shadows from the clouds kind of brought it to life.
